Rolling Hills Adventist Church News, April 30

1 Corinthians 3:9 For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.

Dear Church Family,

We had a good discussion at Prayer Meeting, last night, and I want to share one insight that we shared in together.  I had asked the question, ‘Are we waiting for God, or is He waiting for us?”  I think this is known as a ‘false dichotomy’.  The question to ask is, “Are we cooperating as we should?”

The Greek word for “co-worker” is  “sunergos”.  It combines two words.  Syn = with + Ergos = work.  To work with.  It’s where we get the word “synergy”.  A good work.  I want to work with God.  And I don’t have to wait for that because God is at work.  It says so in the Bible:

1 Corinthians 12:6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

Be Blessed!

he had compassion on them
and healed their sick.

  • Due to the contagious COVID-19, church is closed until it is safe to open.
  • If you need groceries, other supplies, or other types of assistance, please don't hesitate to contact your church family in regards to how we can help you.
“Old News” I looked up a few paragraphs from "The Triumph of Christianity: How the Jesus Movement Became the World's Largest Religion" by Rodney Stark and wanted to share with you:

[In the Roman empire, beginning in 165 A.D. an epidemic hit.] During the fifteen-year duration of the epidemic, a quarter to a third of the population probably died of it. At the height of the epidemic, mortality was so great in many cities that the emperor Marcus Aurelius (who subsequently died of the disease) wrote of caravans of carts and wagons hauling out the dead.

Then, a century later (ca. 251) came another great plague. In a pastoral letter written during the second epidemic (ca. 251), Bishop Dionysius described events in Alexandria: “At the first onset of the disease, they [pagans] pushed the sufferers away and fled from their dearest, throwing them into the roads before they were dead and treated unburied corpses as dirt, hoping thereby to avert the spread and contagion of the fatal disease; but do what they might, they found it difficult to escape.”

"As for action, Christians met the obligation to care for the sick rather than desert them, and thereby saved enormous numbers of lives! Toward the end of the second plague, Bishop Dionysius of Alexandria wrote a pastoral letter to his members, extolling those who had nursed the sick and especially those who had given their lives in doing so.

I encourage you to write a thoughtful note to your friends and family inviting them to join!

God has given us counsel on how we should take care of our bodies so that we can be in the best health to enjoy life and be of service to others. If you haven't read what that counsel is, or if you haven't read it recently, take some time to look through it and see how you can improve your wellbeing.
