Galatians 4:4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, New International Version

Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

How long will this last?

Since this pestilence or Covid-19 Virus is a sign that Jesus is coming soon, and since all things are in God’s hands, I believe that it will last as long as God allows it.

In our last newsletter I said it; I admit it: I am impatient.  But, I think we are learning a good lesson: To wait on the Lord’s timing.

Be Blessed!

  • Due to the contagious COVID-19, church is closed until it is safe to open.
  • If you need groceries, other supplies, or other types of assistance, please don't hesitate to contact your church family in regards to how we can help you.
Zoom Meetings:

For those of us who join in our meetings via “Zoom”, they have announced an upgrade to version 5.  Please look for it.  I’ve upgraded already, at it’s not a big deal.

Got an Extra Tripod?:  We are trying to set up a better ‘studio’ here at the church so we can better broadcast our services.  If anyone has a tripod, we could use a good one.  Call, or write and let us know?

Youth Department News: From Christian Botello:

As we wrap up another week of quarantine, we wanted to share some highlights on various youth happenings in our church.

Friday Night Vespers
Our youth have been meeting together via Zoom for Friday night vespers. The fifth through eighth grader youth meet from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM while our high school and young adults meet from 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM. Both groups are currently studying the Three Angels Messages from the book of Revelation. End time events was a hot topic of Bible study interest. Though I’m sure most of the youth would prefer to meet in person, we are grateful that technology has provided a way for us to stay spiritually connected while we study and worship together.

Sabbath School
Saturday mornings have been another means of staying spiritually engaged and connected to one another. From 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, our fifth through eighth grade youth meet for Sabbath School via Zoom to review our Sabbath School lesson.  These classes use the Juniors PowerPoint study guides.  From 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, our high schoolers and young adults have been studying and reading Steps to Jesus which is a modified version of the book Steps to Christ.  It’s been nice to continue our religious education program even though we have not been able to meet in our church building.
Pathfinders
On April 25, 2020, our Pathfinder club began to meet remotely for Saturday afternoon meetings from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM using Zoom which is the platform we have been using for our other church meetings. Since then, each class has been working on the different requirements in their workbooks. Additionally, the Pathfinder area coordinators for the Southern California Conference have been teaching various Pathfinder honors via Zoom as well. Some of the honors that our Pathfinders have completed are pizza making, scrapbooking, and rainforest. As an entire club, we took the Bible Marking Honor which taught us how to properly mark our Bibles.  We are grateful for the opportunity to continue engaging our children and youth spiritually through this ministry.

Game Night
As another means to stay connected during these difficult times, our youth have been gathering for game nights via Zoom on Saturday nights from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. We play a variety of games, including an online version of Pictionary. We have been having a lot of fun staying socially connected. We look forward to more laughs at our next online social this coming Saturday night!

In-Reach
A few weeks ago, some of our youth began making wellness calls to the senior members of our church. In these calls, we checked in on our senior members and also offered to pick up and arrange delivery for any items they might need. This has been an opportunity for our youth to connect and be of service to our senior members in our church family.

Out-Reach
At the beginning of the year while looking for opportunities to serve in our community, we contacted the city of Rolling Hills Estates to inquire about any volunteer opportunities for our youth. At the beginning of our Safer at Home Order, we were invited by the City to participate in developing a Senior Citizen Support Guide. As one of a couple of faith-based representatives in the area, we gave our input and shared ideas and information about how to best serve the elderly during this unprecedented time. After two meetings, a comprehensive support guide was created by the City and we recently shared it with our church family in a previous church newsletter. We look forward to staying in touch with the City for future opportunities to serve in our community.

Upcoming SCC Youth Events
The SCC Senior Youth and Young Adult Department, also known as ONE House, is offering a number of opportunities for our youth to stay spiritually connected. During the last week of May, May 24-30, ONE House will be offering an online Living Room Gathering via YouTube at 5:45 PM. During these gatherings, an SCC minister will give a brief devotional. The devotionals will be followed by a 20-25 minute workshop called “Housetalks.” These workshops which are specially prepared for our youth will cover relevant issues in our current context.

On Friday, May 23, our youth will be watching ONE House’s Friday night program at 5:50 PM and will be joining the Sabbath worship program presented at 12:00 PM. Using Zoom, I will be sharing my screen with our Rolling Hills youth to broadcast these two sessions. Please encourage your youth and young adults to join us for these programs as they are planned specifically for them!

Christian Botello

Announcements:

Southern California Conference COVID 19 Relief Fund (Quoted from a Letter to Churches):
The Southern California Conference recognizes the financial strain that work restrictions have placed on many people throughout the conference as a result of COVID-19 shelter-in-place recommendations. In an effort to provide financial assistance to those most in need, the Southern California Conference would like to ask you to partner with us as, together, we grow a financial assistance fund that will help those who need it most at this critical time. This relief fund is intended to assist members who can demonstrate that, as a direct result of COVID-19, they have experienced a loss of income from the following: Job Loss; Job Furlough or Reduced Work Hours.

Contributions to this fund can be made through the Adventist Giving website (see below).

Financial Help:  The Church Board has set aside funds to help those in our church family who have been financially impacted by the pandemic.  If you would like to receive such help, please contact one of the Elders directly (Betsy Adams, Raymond Barnes, Janet Barnhill, Janet Lui, Dahlma Osborne), or call me, Pastor Albert, at the Church Office.  There are details and a process so that this will be confidential and smooth.

Reach Your Pastor: I am forwarding the church phone (310/541-1819) to my home phone (424/206-2949) and though it often has bad reception you can call my cell phone (626/826-8448) or text me.  Email works, too: albertfrederico@gmail.com

It Is Written Online Meeting:

It Is Written will conduct a virtual, online evangelistic event starting April 17 that will reach all of North America. Over 600 churches have joined with us in online advertising, and thousands have already registered for the meetings.

The month-long series, entitled Revelation Today: Hope Awakens, will feature Pastor John Bradshaw and present the prophetic message of the Bible while speaking to hearts burdened by anxiety, fear, and uncertainty. The interactive meetings will be viewable on mobile devices and online. Individuals are encouraged to register for the series at hopeawakens.com.

I encourage you to write a thoughtful note to your friends and family inviting them to join!
