Jeremiah 31:3 “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
Dear Church Family,
It is God’s pleasure to love us. He portrays Himself as knocking, listening, waiting, looking and listening. And that is just a starting list.
I wonder what you would add? If you have had the insight to see God’s great love for you, I’m sure you have your own words to describe it.
I see the world as aching for God’s love. And I see that it is the only solution we can offer. I can love and help because God has loved me.
I just wanted to let you know, God loves you.
Pastor Albert
2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
This text will form the basis of our new sermon series
starting this Sabbath.

On Tuesday, on behalf of the church family, we delivered 10 dozen cookies from a local bakery (Mayer’s) to the Sheriff Station, along with letters of appreciation and thanks.
Those who participated in the delivery were Celine Musaza, Carine and David, and Leah Wilson and Precious. The Musaza’s wrote up their experience and we include it next.
There were several others who arranged for the cookies, and wrote letters which included prayers for our law enforcement officers.
Captain James Powers, in charge of all the deputies in this area, came personally to meet us in the lobby, along with a Lieutenant (in the excitement we didn’t quite catch his name!). They passed along the baked treats to the deputies. One, a friend of mine, said he was able to have two cookies!
Here is the report from three of the participants:
Celine Musaza:
On Tuesday June 9, 2020, I was fortunate to be part of the church outreach activity to support and show appreciation to Lomita Sheriff Department. I guess they are trained to not show their emotions but I picked up on the fact that both the captain and lieutenant who received us expressed multiple times how they appreciated us. With the current civil unrest, as human beings we are tempted to take the right or left side. As a Christian, Seventh Day Adventist believer, I choose to take Jesus' side. No matter what was happening or who He came in contact with, He healed the sick, fed the hungry, cared for the mistreated... When we show love, do the simple acts of kindness, we foster the same spirit that was in Jesus. Our communities’ hunger and thirst for that now more than ever. I was honored to be part of this outreach and appreciate our church leadership for their support.
Carine:
My trip to the sheriff station was not what I would consider fun. But I think it was a very meaningful thing to do because those sheriffs have been working 12 hours [per shift, for a week and a half] and they must be tired. So, what we did was give the sheriffs some cookies and cards, to appreciate what they have done. When the sheriffs were talking, I saw a woman throw something in the trash. I thought it was just a normal trash can, but then pastor Albert told me that the trash can was for people to throw away hazardous things such as drugs. One thing I learned going to the station was that when a police officer dies, all the other officers put a black ribbon on their badge.
[They were commemorating a peace officer who died in the line of duty in San Jose, CA]
David:
Hello Rolling Hills church. I hope everybody is safe at home and doing fine. I am going to talk about the trip that some of the church members came to including myself. It was a short trip but was definitely interesting. We went to a sheriff department to say thank you to all those police officers. We gave them letters and cookies. We even got to take a picture with them. It was so amazing and fun. Well that's all I got to say Happy Sabbath.

Southern California Conference COVID 19 Relief Fund (Quoted from a Letter to Churches):
The Southern California Conference recognizes the financial strain that work restrictions have placed on many people throughout the conference as a result of COVID-19 shelter-in-place recommendations. In an effort to provide financial assistance to those most in need, the Southern California Conference would like to ask you to partner with us as, together, we grow a financial assistance fund that will help those who need it most at this critical time. This relief fund is intended to assist members who can demonstrate that, as a direct result of COVID-19, they have experienced a loss of income from the following: Job Loss; Job Furlough or Reduced Work Hours.
Contributions to this fund can be made through the Adventist Giving website (see below).
Financial Help: The Church Board has set aside funds to help those in our church family who have been financially impacted by the pandemic. If you would like to receive such help, please contact one of the Elders directly (Betsy Adams, Raymond Barnes, Janet Barnhill, Janet Lui, Dahlma Osborne), or call me, Pastor Albert, at the Church Office. There are details and a process so that this will be confidential and smooth.
Reach Your Pastor: I am forwarding the church phone (310/541-1819) to my home phone (424/206-2949) and though it often has bad reception you can call my cell phone (626/826-8448) or text me. Email works, too: albertfrederico@gmail.com

I told a new friend, who is a retired deputy, about our visit to the Sheriff Station. In his response, he quoted, by memory, from the following passage. I decided to include the whole context because it is hard to give it the meaning that he did in his response.
I just want to point out that this is an amazing passage, given the well-known antipathy (hate) that many had for the Roman empire in Biblical Lands and Times.
Romans 13:1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience. 6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
