Happy Birthday, America! 1 Kings 15:14 Although he did not remove the high places, Asa’s heart was fully committed to the Lord all his life. 1 Kings 16:29 In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab son of Omri became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria over Israel twenty-two years. 30 Ahab son of Omri did more evil in the eyes of the Lord than any of those before him. Dear Church Family,
I’ve been reading the book of 1 Kings for my personal devotions. I am humbled by the record of men’s lives. In the example above Asa, a good king, had a contemporary, Ahab, a very bad king.
A couple of quick points. What do you want others to say about you? What should we be known for? We may struggle and not get it right, like good king Asa. But his heart was ‘fully committed to the Lord’. I want my heart – and our heart – to be like that.
It matters to our families, to our neighbors, to Heaven where our heart is.
Ahab was a contemporary of Asa’s, in the neighboring kingdom of Israel. But Ahab did not profit from that good example.
Choices are also made today. Where is our heart?

King Nebuchadnezzar,
To the nations and peoples of every language, who live in all the earth:
May you prosper greatly! It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me. How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders!
His kingdom is an eternal kingdom; his dominion endures from generation to generation.

Church is now open with antivirus measures in place.
Prayer Meeting: Will now be preceded by a special half hour, starting at 6:30 p.m., dedicated to prayer for our church. We want to be ready for new opportunities and ministries that will be part of our future. Already there has been a dedicated group interceding for the church at large; they will especially be in attendance and leading in this segment. At 7:00 p.m. our usual Prayer Meeting will begin, with a half hour Bible Study and then a personal sharing and prayer time for those who attend.
To join this meeting, at any time convenient to you, please see the invitation section below. It has a link to our various programs. This coming Wednesday, Janet Barnhill will be our Prayer Meeting facilitator.
Pastor on Vacation: I will be stretching my weekend, taking an extra day or two for the next three weeks. In this way, I will use a week’s vacation time, get a lot done around the house (catching up on Honey-Do’s), and enjoying the local (lonely) outdoors.
I will be present at Prayer Meeting and catching up in the office, too, on duty through the Sabbath… I will continue to answer the phone for emergencies, or ‘urgencies’. And be available if needed.
Upcoming Sabbaths:
July 11: Pastor Christian has recommended a New Testament Professor at La Sierra to be our guest speaker. She is Dr. Kendra J. Haloviak and will be preaching on “Jesus’ First Disciple”.
